50-date UK tour this spring!

Three quarters of MPs are millionaires. A third of the country lives below the poverty line. Whatever your politics, Jonny & the Baptists think it’s worth talking about.

Following a smash hit (yeah that’s right we said it) Edinburgh premiere last year, our new show Eat The Poor is embarking on a 50-date UK tour in March-April-May! Most shows also include a warm-up set of ‘some hits’, plus we’ve been updating the script to account for (a small proportion of) the fully-fledged shitstorm that’s happened in the world since we first wrote it.

According to our press release, Eat The Poor is a “riotously funny musical comedy about inequality, revolution, friendship and betrayal. Join acclaimed musical comedians Jonny & the Baptists – stars of Radio 4’s The Now Show and BBC Live at Television Centre – for an epic tale of modern Britain.

Setting out to explore the gap between rich and poor, Jonny & the Baptists’ lives turn upside down when Jonny betrays Paddy for financial gain. As Jonny enjoys the highlife with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jerry Hall, Paddy falls into homelessness and despair.”

The two of us and amazing delight Rachel Parris will be appearing in a brand new festive play written by Jonny, with songs by Jonny & The Baptists. It’s called 30 Christmases and we’re very excited about it and it’s going to be on for 13 performances in December at The Old Fire Station in Oxford.

It’s on from December 13th until December 23rd at varying times available by clicking here!

Here’s the blurb and some links!

‘Christmas Eve, eleven years ago, was the last time we saw Dad. Oh, hello, I’m Jonny. This is my sister Rachel. And this is Paddy, who’s… always there.’

Jonny and Rachel haven’t had a good Christmas in years, but this time they’re going to get it right. Join them for a joyful, heartfelt comedy about trying to make Christmas happen – despite everything.

Stuffed with music, laughter and love, this is Oxford’s only Christmas show for grown-ups. A hilarious and heart-warming story of family, politics, sibling rivalry and rebellion.

Sounds good right?! Here’s the link to buy tickets.

‘EAT THE POOR’ – Our Brand New Show!

It’s that time of the year again! We will be performing our show ‘JONNY & THE BAPTISTS: EAT THE POOR’ as previews at a whole host of venues in July, followed by a full month run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August! Check out our GIGS PAGE for more information.

Here’s all the information you could ever need:

Musical satirists JONNY & THE BAPTISTS’ new show EAT THE POOR follows their acclaimed 40-date spring 2016 UK tour of The End Is Nigh and recent appearance on the BBC’s Live at Television Centre.

In 2009, future Prime Minister David Cameron forgot how many houses he owned. Within five years, homelessness had doubled…

Setting out to explore the ever-increasing gap between rich and poor, Jonny & the Baptists’ lives turn upside down when Jonny has the chance to betray Paddy for financial gain. As Jonny enjoys a wealth of parties with Andrew Lloyd Webber and even marries Jerry Hall, Paddy falls into homelessness and despair.

A riotous musical comedy epic about friendship, inequality and betrayal, EAT THE POOR sees the multi-award-nominees continue to grow in scope and ambition – and even dabble in a small amount of actual economics. The show was developed with support from Arts Council England, Pentabus Theatre, Arts at the Old Fire Station Oxford and London’s Old Red Lion.

One of the UK’s hottest live musical comedy acts with ever-increasing live audiences from several hit tours and festivals, Jonny & the Baptists have been regulars on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show and once topped the iTunes Comedy Chart with single ‘Farage’. They have also supported Mark Thomas on tour and recently appeared on the BBC’s Live at Television Centre. Alongside, Jonny Donahoe has been nominated for a New York Drama Desk Award for his hit one-man show Every Brilliant Thing on international tour, while Paddy Gervers has a cult following for acclaimed podcast ‘Podshambles’.

See you there!

‘The End Is Nigh’ 2016 TOUR!

Throughout March, April and May we will be touring our show ‘The End Is Nigh’.

Last year, Jonny accidentally told his four-year-old niece that climate change would end the world. To stop her crying, he and Paddy promised to fix it. They really tried very hard…

Our newest show, THE END IS NIGH offers our most personal – and apocalyptic – venture to date. Featuring barnstorming satirical rock to flights of brilliant silliness, the show blends comedy, theatre and rock gig in a captivating story of family, friendship and environmental disaster. At least that is what our press release says.

The tour opens with a week at The Drum in Plymouth from 29th March – 2nd May before travelling to many of the UK’s leading theatres, arts centres and rural touring venues over 40 dates. The show first premiered in 2015 at Paines Plough’s Roundabout Theatre (Southbank Centre London / Edinburgh Fringe), and was developed with support from Arts Council England and Pentabus Theatre.

Here are the dates, check out our GIGS page to see more and book tickets! I will put them up there as soon as they become available.
